CODE - NDG
1-2 (113)
In 2009, one of the most celebrated events in Lithuanian public life was the opening of the National Gallery of Art (NDG) in Vilnius. Its reconstruction pioneered the renaissance of museums in Lithuania. During its first exhibitions, audiences consumed art with such enthusiasm that the traffic of viewers was intense on weekends. The visitors explore the atmosphere and spaces of the building no less than the exhibits.

IN LITHUANIAN / WITH QUALITY
1-2 (113)
One of the most urgent issues today is the reconstruction of old resorts, building new ones and reclamation of the most beautiful lakes or river banks. A plot is often used up to the last square centimetre: houses stare at each other’s windows and nature is lost in the network of paths and minor architecture. Quality reconstruction of the recreational complex Nakcižibis in Varėna District presents an opposition to this tendency. The free arrangement of spaces and architectural expression have been inspired by nature and authentic Dzukian traditions as well as reinterpreted with a contemporary approach. A project by Arches Ltd. (A. Liola, R. Liola, E. Neniškis, L. Nekrošius, L. Lažinskas) was nominated by the A. Zaviša Fund as the best recreational architecture project 2009.

The owner of Hero Inn who has co-designed the interior, Rimgaudas Kuntsmonas, claims that the bar needed only a make-up reconstruction, but the new atmosphere recalls a cosmopolitan bar.

The condition was to demonstrate a wide range of possibilities to use wood, and the only material allowed was the Finnish pine.

A FROZEN MOMENT
Nr. 108
The specification of a traditional work space in Lithuania is simple: a glass cubicle, an economy class carpet, a desk and a chair. Yet the company MFT offers something different.
