Milan has been unanimously named the capital of design and fashion, but the city itself is criticised for being expensive, grey and unattractive. Yet there is some interesting building activity going on here, for example, the luxurious Maison Moschino hotel. The hotel is a reconstructed terminal of the first railway station of Milan. The architects’ bureau Luca Strada Associati has successfully converted this monumental building into a hotel: a continuous interior space has been divided into four floors, but the authentic neoclassical facade from 1840 has been left untouched. The plan of the former station is very suitable for transformations: on the four newly formed floors, the architects have easily accommodated rooms and other premises because they were not restricted by horizontal partitions and the symmetrically arranged windows in the facade have guaranteed natural light for all main premises.
The thread linking all rooms is the motif of the fairy tale. The interior reflects the unique style of the Moschino fashion house, which surprises us with surrealist brushstrokes. Already in the lobby, guests find themselves in a surrealist and theatrical fairy-tale whose motives are repeated in all spaces. The visitor is met by the first characters of the fantasy world: the fluffy origami clouds and elegant dresses turned into sculptural lamps. 16 fairytales live in 65 rooms interpreted with humour and elegance.
The very name of the hotel guarantees the highest quality design and service. The chef Moreno Cedroni‘s restaurant Clandestino grows organically from the ground floor into the open spaces outside. The Culti company takes care of the hotel‘s SPA with its unpretentious and relaxing atmosphere. And back in the room, mysterious things and characters come to life, while all fairy tales have happy endings. |
