Nr. 10 (119)
As soon as the hotel La Royal Monceau opened in 1928 (designed by the architect Louis Duhayon), the legends of French and international business, art and politics started coming here, for example, Ernest Hemingway, Walt Disney or Ray Charles. The 256 highest quality suites were equipped with the most innovative technologies. Yet the sophisticated luxury as well as the legendary reputation started fading eventually and the hotel was closed for renovation in 2007. The result, created by the cult French architect and designer Philippe Starck, surpassed everybody’s expectations.

UNCHANGED
Nr. 3 (114)
The Rumene Duke manor was first mentioned in Latvian written sources in 1453. The present brick manor was built in 1876 by the Disterloe family. Brothers Dauguli moved here after World War I. A primary school was opened in the manor after World War II, then it was a collective farm property, and from 1990, the manor stood empty. In 2004, it was bought by Dana Beldiman and Justs Karlsons and reconstructed by Zaiga Gaile, one of the most prominent Latvian architects.
