Often time requires change, and a flat furnished a couple of years ago becomes tiresome and no longer meets the requirements of the present day. Such commission is a difficult one for an architect who has to modify ideas realised by another architect. Thus, architects from Kaunas, Vida Vyšniauskienė and Vilius Adomavičius, have transformed a complex architecture into a modern and comfortable interior.
On the ground floor, previously divided into non-functional zones, architects have formed a clear open space. The construction of the house did not allow removing supporting columns, but they were used to separate the functional zones. By leaving partial partitions, the architects have created an exceptional colour solution and aesthetics.
For some of the space the architects have chosen effective tiles of pastel colours. In the fireplace zone, they use ceramic tiles not only for the floor, but also for a partition. Deep dark wood motifs dominate another area and harmonize the interior. The strict, angular forms of architecture are significantly repeated throughout, and the greyish wallpaper is used in all spaces. Its neutral pattern creates a subtly lively impression and masks the previous construction work of poorer quality.
The neutral interior is enlivened by bright red highlights, which appear not only as original pieces of furniture, but also in well chosen works of art. In the bathroom, subtle white units are revealed against the red background. In other premises, there were no radical changes, except a few details and the rearrangement of furniture as well as changed textiles. The result has met the owners’ expectations: their old house has been reborn for a new life.
