One could say quite safely that there is never too much of white colour in interiors. It will always be stylish, effective and subtle. Every time the lighting changes, white colour acquires different shades that reveal the outlines and shapes of things, and the soft shadows endow it with live vibrations. Even brighter colour effects are obtained by contrasting the white to intensive colour combinations. Then, white things become even whiter and marvellous.
While creating this interior in the old town of Vilnius, architect Rasa Jonikaitė has used all advantages of a contrasting interior. By combining the rough brick wall motif with subtle ceiling mouldings, soft draperies with strict lines of furniture, white furniture with bright carpets, the architect has achieved the maximum effect.
By opening the space, Rasa Jonikaitė has created privacy in the bedroom zone with the help of soft draperies. The intimate space pulsating with red colours can be separated, if necessary, with a curtain. In the kitchen, the designer has let the white colour to reveal itself. Domestic appliances disappear hidden behind white cupboards. The black and white dining furniture connects the sitting-room and the kitchen zones and seems to float in space against the background of natural wood. The architect has enhanced this mood by putting a rough dark brick wall next to it. By subtly combining pure minimalist forms with gracious classical elements the architect has demonstrated her mature style and preserved the atmosphere of an old-town flat. |
