The old town with its complicated spaces brings atmosphere to the living environment. In this flat, architect Linas Šepetys combines modern solutions and bright highlights suggesting a classical style. The space flooded with light creates a Mediterranean mood, which is enhanced by an elegant lamp in the centre and original décor of the fireplace. The sitting room furniture of neutral colour and laconic design seems to vanish in space, thus allowing the soft fabrics of the curtains and dining chairs upholstered for this interior to dominate. The architect has enhanced the range of quiet pastel colours by introducing a detail of heavily patterned wallpaper and inserting conspicuous tiles in the bathroom.
The kitchen zone continues the theme of a neutral interior; its classical furniture contains all necessary kitchen equipment. Tastefully chosen dishes and other details become the focus of this restrained space.
In the centre of the bottom floor, Linas has designed a shape reminding of a wooden frame with a flat-screen television set. This construction has been necessary to disguise the column that reinforces the stairs to the loft.
The top floor includes bedrooms and the bathroom. Since there is not much space here, the library has found its place in the hall of the loft. The same colour motifs dominate here as well, but supplemented with a brick wall detail. Since the spaces are not large, every centimetre had to be accounted for. Yet the result is perfect: there is room in the bathroom even for a shower cabin. By subtly combining modern, laconic elements with classical details, Linas Šepetys has solved the dilemma typical to flats in the old town: he has turned the style dictated by an old house into a home for young people, but has preserved the mood of the old town. |
